I'm Exhausted!
I ran in the afternoon instead of the morning and found that it really wiped me out!

An email from the New York Road Runners asked about the motivations that get runners out of bed—even when it's raining or you're tired from your last training run—to hit the roads, track, and trails in preparation for November 6. Runners were encouraged to write about their inspirations.
So why do I run?
I run to keep up with my boys. Since birth, my sons, now age 10 and 13, have been in almost constant motion. I need to stay active and fit to make sure that I’ll always be able to race them to the corner, to jump waves with them at the beach, to ride bikes together on Randall’s Island, and to play catch with them at the park.
I also run to inspire my boys. I want them to see that anyone at any age can set and achieve athletic goals; that the hard work of training – blisters and all – is a worthwhile endeavor; that the pursuit of big things like a 26.2-mile race can best be overcome with small steps – like the simple act of lacing up my running shoes every morning.
Rainy today so postponed the long run for one more day... Friday Breakfast: oatmeal w/craisins and sliced almonds, water Lunch: pasta w/roasted tomatoes and peppers, propel Snack: 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half, yogurt Dinner:

Today was probably the sweatiest I've ever felt. Sweat dripped down my face into my eyes and mouth. My shirt - high tech as it was - was soaked. Even my sneakers were wet!

It's hot - so much so that I decided to stay inside and do some wii running (I ran for an hour - and am logging not the 10 or so miles that the wii logged, but a more reasonable six). The temps will continue to be high this week - so I'll have to get up early to get my miles in before the mercury soars.
Monday

I noticed the same phenomenon today as a few days ago when I ran earlier than usual: in the morning, more people run the Central Park loop in the opposite direction (clockwise, rather than counterclockwise) than later in the day. Nice to run with fewer tourist bikers and cars than later, though.
Friday Pre-run: a few green grapes, water Breakfast: yogurt w/banana and sunflower seeds, propel Snack: 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half Lunch: salad w/grilled chicken, 3 crepe-like blueberry pancakes Dinner:
Friday's mileage: 7.5 miles Month-to-date: 59 miles Year-to-date: 359 miles
I love to ride my bicycle in Central Park and it is delightful to see that others do, too. But I do worry a bit about the tourists who rent bike from the concession at the Boat House. They often don't wear helmets. And they appear not to be very aware of the bike lane rules. They often weave around as they take photos on their cellphones. And what I hate the most is that they often ride in the runner's lane.
Today I saw an ambulance and police car on the decline just before Lasker Pool. A boy was in the ambulance; his father and brother stood worriedly nearby, as did their rental bikes. I hate to say I told you so, and yet...
Thursday Breakfast: special K w/chocolate, milk, water Snack: propel Lunch: pasta w/tomato and pesto, watermelon chunks, lemonade Snack: 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half, 5 chocolate kisses Dinner: mac n cheese, roasted zucchini, roasted cherry tomatoes, green grapes, water
Thursday's mileage: 9 miles Month-to-date: 51.5 miles Year-to-date: 351.5 miles
I was about halfway through my Central Park run when it started to rain. My hip was bothering me, too, reminiscent of the injury that kept me out of the marathon last year, so I started to walk home. I was almost there when the sun came out. Walking out the muscle strain had made me feel much better, so I topped things off with a run along the river.

Wednesday's mileage: 7.5 miles Month-to-date: 42.5 miles Year-to-date: 342.5 miles
It is going to be hot, hot, hot in NYC today, so I am taking the day off from running. Will plan to run every day for the rest of the week to make up for it.
Tuesday Breakfast: 2 mini cupcakes, shrimp, watermelon, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half Lunch: pasta with pesto Snack: 4 mini cupcakes Dinner: 1/2 FD pizza, pineapple, water Snack: 4 chocolate kisses
Tuesday's mileage: 0 miles Month-to-date: 35 miles Year-to-date: 35 miles
I had great, optimistic plans to get up at 6 am and run 8 miles before taking the kids to their dr appointments. Didn't happen. I just didn't want to get out of bed! But I did finally get out and do a sluggish 4.5 miles with some walking. Maybe tomorrow...
I blew off my run yesterday to have breakfast out with my honey. It was lovely, but now I'm a bit behind and will really have to put in some miles this week! Today's run wasn't as energetic as it could be, alas.
Sunday Breakfast: yogurt w/sunflower seeds, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half, water Lunch: propel, pb&j sandwich, applesauce, water Snack: 1 cup cheerios, quite a few chocolate kisses Dinner: filet mignon, roasted potatoes, green salad, watermelon, water
Sunday's mileage: 8 miles Month-to-date: 30.5 miles Year-to-date: 330.5 miles
Ok, ok, I know that wii running isn't the same as real running, but I did two hours of running today - 18 or so miles according to the wii, but I'm only counting 10 because that's what I think I can run in 2 miles.
Friday
Breakfast: yogurt w/sunflower seeds and raisins, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half Lunch: leftover pasta w/meat sauce, plum, water Snack: zone bar, 4 oz oj Dinner: 1/2 FD pizza, blueberries, water Snack: zone bar, water
Friday's mileage: 10 miles Month-to-date: 22.5 miles Year-to-date: 322.5 miles
I had hoped to get 6 miles in today, but just a bit over halfway through I got caught in a thunderstorm. While the lightening wasn't frightening close (it appeared to hit Randall's Island; I was on the Manhattan side of the East River), it was close enough that I didn't think I should take an unnecessary chance.
Thursday Breakfast: yogurt w/sunflower seeds, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half Lunch: leftover pasta w/meat sauce, water Snack: 2 cookies, lemonade Dinner: chicken tenders, roasted vegetables, strawberries, water Snack: 1/4 cup pecans, 5 chips, oj
Thursday's mileage: 4.5 miles Month-to-date: 12.5 miles Year-to-date: 312.5 miles
Although it was 90 degrees when I left for my run, I was lucky to encounter light showers and a river breeze that made it bearable. Lots of folks fishing on the East River today. I wonder if it was the influence of the related article in today's NY Times.
Wednesday Breakfast: yogurt w/sunflower seeds, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half Lunch: ham and cheese sandwich, water Snack: v8 splash and water Dinner: pasta w/meat sauce, 2 plums, water Snack: 2 cookies
Wednesday's mileage: 4.5 miles Month-to-date: 8 miles Year-to-date: 308 miles
Well the weekend was a bust both running and diet-wise - we had guests for the weekend at our week-end house in PA and there was lots of wine, potato salad, and celebration. I did get in a short run, though.
