Lucky Me

I had much better luck timing the weather today than I did last week -- the rain stopped just in time for me to get my miles in.  Bonus: because it was forecasted to be a rainy day, the park was relatively empty, allowing me to enjoy the forsythia blooms, rather than dodging bikers and baby strollers.

Today

Breakfast: yogurt w/1/4 cup granola, water
snack: 1 cup multigrain cheerios
Lunch: steak slices on a roll, carrot sticks w/dressing, water
Snack: 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half, zone bar

Dinner: spinach salad w/shrimp and carrots, blueberries, 1 slice cheese, water

Need a Run

My second day home with a sick child, but I'm still hoping to sneak out for a run later.

Lunch: turkey sandwich w/miracle whip and pickles, apple
Snack: 7 oreos, water
Dinner: spinach salad w/blueberries, dried cranberries and sliced almonds, water

A Family Affair

I ran my first mile and a half with my teenage son this morning.  Wow, with his long legs, he can really move beautifully and effortlessly.  I felt like a short little troll next to him (for the short period of time that I was next to him -- he quickly out-distanced me), but at the same time was extremely proud of how far he's progressed with his running.

My whole body ached and I was tempted to quit when my son did, but I plugged through the pain and was proud to finish my planned mileage.

Lunch: turkey sandwich w/miracle whip and pickles on a roll, water
Snack: 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half, chocolate chip muffin

Another Day of Contrasts

It was 22 degrees when I got up this morning.  But the day was sunny and bright, and I was pleased to see that the cold hadn't bothered the crocuses and daffodils which first poked their heads up last week when the weather was so pleasant (this despite the patches of snow which have remained here and there in the park and the icicles that cling to the rock formations on the northern end of my route).

Today

Breakfast: chocolate chip muffin 
Lunch: turkey sandwich w/french dressing and pickles on a roll, water
Snack: banana granola bar, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half
Dinner: steak, 1 piece rosemary ciabatta, sauteed spinach, red wine
snack: 2 handfuls cracklin oat bran

Wintry Mix

I waited and waited to run today, and when it seemed as though there was a break in the precipitation, I headed out.  At first, I encountered just a delightful misty rain.  But in the course of my run, I got hit with everything: sleet, snow, even a little hail!  But I soldiered on!

Lunch: pasta w/cheese & black olives, pear
Snack: hot chocolate, small cup of ice cream

Lunch: dunkin donuts reverse Boston cream donut
Snack: leftover roasted sweet potato, granola bar, water
Dinner: baked salmon, red pepper strips, corn, french bread w/olive oil, green grapes, wine

Year-to-date: 66.5 miles

Happy St. Patrick's Day

It is beautiful today, but cold enough early in the morning that I waited until it warmed up in the afternoon to take my run.  Of course that meant that I encountered folks from NYC's St. Patrick's Day parade, all decked out in their green beads and shamrocks, since by that time, the festivities well under way.

Breakfast: oatmeal w/peanuts and dried fruit
Lunch: carrots w/almond butter, green apple, water

Snack: 2 cups coffee w/half and half

Dinner: 1/4 flat-crust pizza, irish cheddar & apple slices, shamrock cookie
Snack: bread w/dried fruit and nuts, bailey's irish cream

Ok, I've had sort of a slow start to my 1000 miles/year, marathon-training goal.  But now that I've run 6 miles on two consecutive days and don't feel as bad as I did a week ago, I think I'm on to something here.

Another Six

I still have lots of catching up to do to get myself on track for 1000 miles this year.  But I did six today (in beautiful weather) and hope to do another six tomorrow.  With 1.5 on Tuesday and hopefully another 6 tomorrow, that will make 13.5 for the week, which is the most I've done this year.


Breakfast: honey yogurt w/sliced almonds, cubed honeydew melon, 2 1/2 cups mocha w/milk
Lunch: turkey breast in 1/3 pita w/french dressing, pear, klondike bar, water
Snack: 1 cup of cracklin oat bran, water
Dinner: chicken & pasta w/tomato sauce, asparagus, merlot

Weekend Running

A busy schedule (and a little laziness) means I didn't get our this week as much as I should have.  But I was out the last two days!  I expect rain will keep me home tomorrow, but then am hoping for a run-filled week!

Friday:
Breakfast: 1 cup Cracklin Oat Bran w/milk, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half
Lunch: 2 spoonfuls peanut butter, apple
Dinner: shared appetizers: chorizo, shrimp/bread w/garlic sauce; green salad, sliced steak, fries, 2 caipirinhas, water


Today's mileage: ran 1.5 miles
Year-to-date: 36 miles

Saturday:

Breakfast: la liberte yogurt, 1/2 blueberry scone, banana, 2 1/2 cups coffee w/half and half
Lunch: apple/squash soup, crackers
Dinner: chicken breast w/barbecue sauce, asparagus, sticky bun, raspberries, water
Snack: small glass Baily's
