Lucky Me
I had much better luck timing the weather today than I did last week -- the rain stopped just in time for me to get my miles in. Bonus: because it was forecasted to be a rainy day, the park was relatively empty, allowing me to enjoy the forsythia blooms, rather than dodging bikers and baby strollers.

Since I wasn't able to run Monday or yesterday, I will have to increase my miles to get to 100 miles by the end of March.

My second day home with a sick child, but I'm still hoping to sneak out for a run later.

I ran my first mile and a half with my teenage son this morning. Wow, with his long legs, he can really move beautifully and effortlessly. I felt like a short little troll next to him (for the short period of time that I was next to him -- he quickly out-distanced me), but at the same time was extremely proud of how far he's progressed with his running.
My whole body ached and I was tempted to quit when my son did, but I plugged through the pain and was proud to finish my planned mileage.

It was 22 degrees when I got up this morning. But the day was sunny and bright, and I was pleased to see that the cold hadn't bothered the crocuses and daffodils which first poked their heads up last week when the weather was so pleasant (this despite the patches of snow which have remained here and there in the park and the icicles that cling to the rock formations on the northern end of my route).

I waited and waited to run today, and when it seemed as though there was a break in the precipitation, I headed out. At first, I encountered just a delightful misty rain. But in the course of my run, I got hit with everything: sleet, snow, even a little hail! But I soldiered on!

It is beautiful today, but cold enough early in the morning that I waited until it warmed up in the afternoon to take my run. Of course that meant that I encountered folks from NYC's St. Patrick's Day parade, all decked out in their green beads and shamrocks, since by that time, the festivities well under way.

Ok, I've had sort of a slow start to my 1000 miles/year, marathon-training goal. But now that I've run 6 miles on two consecutive days and don't feel as bad as I did a week ago, I think I'm on to something here.

I still have lots of catching up to do to get myself on track for 1000 miles this year. But I did six today (in beautiful weather) and hope to do another six tomorrow. With 1.5 on Tuesday and hopefully another 6 tomorrow, that will make 13.5 for the week, which is the most I've done this year.

A busy schedule (and a little laziness) means I didn't get our this week as much as I should have. But I was out the last two days! I expect rain will keep me home tomorrow, but then am hoping for a run-filled week!
